IN THE SANCTUARY

“A Mother's Day Vision of Healing”
Rev. Michael J S Carter

Second Sundays: Alison Tynes Adams, soprano; Annelinde Metzner,
composer & piano
Greeters: Andy Reed & Elizabeth Wallace

Sermon Topic:
As you have heard me say, Mother’s Day is a difficult time to write a sermon for clergy. How many times can we talk about our mothers (love them or hate them?) So, this morning, I want to talk about the “mother of all
mothers” if you will, our Mother Earth.

Everyone by now knows that humanity is in crisis… politically, economically, spiritually and ecologically (or any way you want to look at it.) There are many people who see humanity as close to suicide and on its deathbed by way of our own technology and lack of maturity while using it. Many others see humanity as deserving of the wrath of an angry god or nature’s wrath in retribution for our “sins.” Let's explore a different vision for our Mother Earth---a
vision of healing.

We want to hear from you about your joys and concerns. If you cannot attend in person and would like to be heard, please send your message to Rev. Michael Carter by noon on Friday so he can read it during the Sunday service.

You can livestream the Sunday Service and also see prior Sunday Services on YouTube. Click to go to YouTube hereor go to YouTube.com and search for UUCSV Productions. “Eastern Thoughts on Happiness for the Western Mind”
Rev. Michael J S Carter

The Western intellectual tradition suggests that in order to be happy, what we need to do most of all is to go out and subdue the world; secure resources, found businesses, run governments, gain fame and conquer nations.

By contrast, the Eastern tradition has for a long while told us something very different. In both its Buddhist and Hindu strands, it has insisted that contentment requires us to learn to conquer not the world but the instrument through which we view this world, namely our minds. Let's explore!

Raise Money for UUCSV While Cleaning Out Those Books

So far this year we have raised $400 simply by getting rid of those books we've been wanting to get out of our house. Jackie Franklin has been kind enough to volunteer her time to take our books to Books For Good who pays us for them!  Then they make them available to folks at a greatly discounted price. It's a win-win situation. All that is required is to bring in the books you would like to donate on Sunday and put them in the box in the Portico labeled "Books For Good".

Note:  At this time they are only accepting books published in the past two years (fiction/non-fiction & hardback/paperback) and all paperback fiction books regardless of publication date.

Thank you for your contributions.
