“Fully Embracing & Sustaining Our Higher Frequencies”
Chaitanya

Musician(s):
Music: Koriander, voice & harmonium; Rishi, percussion; Mike Ivey, bass; Linda Metzner, piano
Greeters: Elizabeth Wallace & Bea Lothrop

Sermon Topic:
Despite our highest intentions, we tend to lose momentum, stop, then start again. It can take significant energy to begin anew. We may become disheartened and even self-denigrating. Often, we know what we want to do, so why does it "fall apart"? Why do we allow the world to sabotage us, pulling us down from the beautiful spaces that we've accessed? What are the keys to sustaining a vibrant, pure frequency? As part of the service, we'll sing a few universal mantras as a powerful, joyful way to stay in a higher vibration.

About Chaitanya
Koriander, on the harmonium, her partner Rishi, playing the tabla, and bass player, Mike Ivey, make up the group Chaitanya. They conduct Kirtan
sessions at the Center Within in Black Mountain. Kiran is a form of Hindu meditative chant.

We want to hear from you about your joys and concerns. If you cannot attend in person and would like to be heard, please send your message to Rev. Michael Carter by noon on Friday so he can read it during the Sunday service.

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. —The Change the World Kids

In this weeks lesson, children will hear the story of the Change the World Kids (from Vermont) and their efforts to protect the Earth. Well learn that this is also our responsibility, as expressed by the seventh Unitarian Universalist Principle, respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. We’ll contribute to this by creating ”Make a Difference" posters about protecting the Earth.

Take it further by exploring the topic together. Ask to see and display your child's "Make a Difference" poster and/or use the cloth bag they decorated and talk about ways your family can work to protect the Earth in your home.

A Family Ritual
Our "daily bread" is a constant reminder that the interdependent web of life ensures our survival. Take a moment at mealtime to acknowledge the journey that food made to arrive on your plates. Thank the people who planted and harvested crops; the animals that gave their lives; the insects that pollinated crops; the rain that helped them grow; the people who transported, and
labeled the food, stocked the grocery shelves and sold the food, and those who prepared and served the meal. Emphasize that we need all of the Earth's life to survive. Ask each family member to name one way they took care of the Earth that day or will do so in the future.

“Knowing & Being ”
Rev. Michael J S Carter

One of the oldest texts in any Indo-European language is the Rig Veda from the Hindu tradition. Let me share a quote with you. “I know not whether I am the same as this cosmos; a mystery am I, yet burdened by mind I wander.”
And now from the book of Psalms, #8
.
“When I consider the heavens, the work of your fingers, The moon and the stars which you have ordained, what are human beings that you are mindful of them?”

As seekers of truth, the only thing we need to do is to take ourselves seriously. The question of “Why am I here?” will arise eventually. We are naturally interested in both the cosmos and the person, nature and consciousness, flesh and spirit. Let's explore the essence of being human. Let's explore what it means "to know" and "to be."

Explore the Buddhist Four Sublime Attitudes

Buddhism emphasizes the cultivation of four “sublime” or “noble” attitudes
toward all beings: loving-kindness (friendliness), compassion (willing to cease suffering), appreciative joy (feeling happy for others), and equanimity (calm based on wisdom). These are known as the “four immeasurables” (Sujiva, 2007).

Nellie Lauth has spent time at a Buddhist monastery in India and has enjoyed the company of many teachers and students from many paths, including, Hindu (Advaita), Buddhist, Native American (Lakota), Christian  and Sufis, and loves to celebrate the unity of all traditions in One Love and Wisdom. She would be honored and happy to facilitate a contemplation of these teachings for UU's in a two hour session.  Anyone interested, please contact Larry Pearlman (larryRpearlman42@gmail.com).

UUWomenSpirit Events
Weekly Institute - May 17 - 19, 2023
Weekend Gathering - May 19 - 21, 2023
The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center - Highlands, NC

UUWomenSpirit has been meeting twice a year at The Mountain, the beautiful retreat center near Highlands, NC, for over 30 years. This May, the retreat focuses on ancient Mayan wisdom. UUCSV's Annelinde Metzner, Maggie Moon O'Neill, and Peggy Moore are all presenters at this event.

Description of the events and link to register
Mayan elders say it is time for ancient indigenous wisdom to be shared with the world to help birth the New Era, a new Great Cycle that is a balance of Divine female & male energies. At UUWomenspirit’s Spring event, we will
follow the sacred Mayan calendar days and we will walk together on what the Maya call the Sacred Road, The Sac Be. Our vision is that by honoring the wisdom of the indigenous cultures of this land we live on and coming together in the Mayan Sacred time, we can be in a better relationship with Mother Earth, the Divine, ourselves and each other. The registration link can be found hereJoin us!

Raise Money for UUCSV While Cleaning Out Those Books

So far this year we have raised $400 simply by getting rid of those books we've been wanting to get out of our house. Jackie Franklin has been kind enough to volunteer her time to take our books to Books For Good who pays us for them!  Then they make them available to folks at a greatly discounted price.  It's a win-win situation. All that is required is to bring in the books you'd like to donate on Sunday and put them in the box in the Portico labeled "Books For Good".

Note:  At this time they are only accepting books published in the past two years (fiction/non-fiction & hardback/paperback) and all paperback fiction books regardless of publication date.

Thank you for your contributions.
