bearHank The Tank!
A bear brigade led by a massive specimen dubbed “Hank the Tank” has broken into dozens of homes in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. To raid the refrigerators. Hank has ballooned up to some 500 pounds on this diet of pilfered human food, and easily crashes through doors and windows. But the residents who’ve encountered the massive beast say he doesn’t growl or menace them. “He just sits there and eats” said Ann Bryant of the Bear League. State wildlife authorities are trying to capture Hank and two fellow invaders and the Bear League. State wildlife authorities are trying to capture Hank and two fellow invaders and release them in a “suitable environment.”

Goats with Discriminating Tastes

In Washington’s Olympic National Park due to their yen for the minerals in human pee. Large herds of goats paw and dig areas along trails and campsites where hikers have urinated, in search of the salt and other minerals it provides. To reduce the goat’s numbers  - and their digging up of park grounds and sometimes aggressive interactions with people – rangers have begun using helicopters to airlift the animals to more remote forests in the North Cascades.

Awww, no, not that!
A Florida man who believed he had bought fake methamphetamine called 911 asking to stathave it tested, police say. Police said Thomas Eugene Colucci told the arriving officers he was an experienced drug user who “knew what it should feel like” and that he wanted to put the “seller in trouble.” The officers tested the crystals as Colucci requested – then arrested him for possession when the test came up positive.

Stupid is as Stupid Does
An Arizona woman spent a year training to be a DEA agent – but found out the federal agent supposedly training her was an impostor. The ruse was exposed when a Portland, Ore. police officer saw the pair next to a car with flashing emergency lights. The cop quickly recognized that the woman’s DEA credentials were fake. She said the “agent” Robert Edward Golden, had taken her on nightly ride-alongs and practice shooting. Golden insisted the DEA identifies were part of “cosplay” but was arrested.

And, One More Time...
An Arizona man hit a nearly $230,000 jackpot on a slot machine in Las Vegas – but left without realizing what he had won. When the slot player got a screen reading “Resolving Progressive Prize, Please Wait” he lingered a few minutes, then left to make a dinner reservation. Two days later workers fixing the malfunctioning machine “detected the jackpot hit”. Said the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The Investigators spent three weeks tracking down the unknowing winner through surveillance video, witness interviews, and a credit card payment to a ride hailing service. He was delivered a check for $229, 368.52.

unload

Jim Humphries has a bunch of useful videos at his Imminent Threat Defense video channel at YouTube. I liked his video about how to unload a variety of firearms, 25 in all. All kids should see the video and it doesn't hurt to watch it yourself!

Laws of Our Lives (not the soap opera, but it could be)
1.Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you'll have to pee.

2.Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

3. Law of Probability- The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

4.Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal beerand someone always answers.

5.Supermarket Law - As soon as you get in the smallest line, the cashier will have to call for help.

6.Variation Law -If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now.

7.Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.

8. Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

9. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.

10. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

11. Law of the Theater & Hockey Arena - At any event, the people whose seats are farthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangling legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk.

The Thridarangar Lighthouse stands just in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, a few miles from the Vestmann Islands coast, in the south of Iceland. It is the most isolated lighthouse in the world and is only reachable by helicopter.
light
The lighthouse, which literally translated from the Icelandic language means "three rocks", was built in 1939 on the highest of the three rocky spurs that make up this small group of rock formations. The persistent impact of the icy ocean waves that violently break on the cliff, prevent any attempt of reaching the lighthouse by boat. The lighthouse which stands 36 meters on the summit of a steep and dangerous rock formation, is only reachable from the sky, making it a truly unique location.

PDF VERSIONS OF OUR PUBLICATIONS
ARE NOW AVAILABLE- INSTANTLY

Oh wow! after a full eleven months our new website has launched! It is more modern, friendly to hand-held devices like phones and tablets, and, da da dum... the new website offers PDF versions of our publications available for instant download! So the next time you are at a gun-show or in a friendly discussion at a watering hole, or need a digital library, you can download the definitive answer.

One thing though, our search function is run by Google and it will take a month or so to read all 6000 pages. The Keyword Search bar will not return all the items it will in the future. So please, don't use that just yet.

Below is the new key to using the new website. Actually, it works much like the old site so you won't have any difficulty handling the small differences.

Rants and Raves
Ranter
Dear Mr. Gray, Regarding the negative you gave us at ebay for the AR-15 manual you bought, I would like to request you revise your feedback to positive because it hurts us for a year and encourages other people pile on. We've sold 84 of these on ebay with no complaints and another 273 on other platforms. Abby and I try hard to preserve over 6000 old firearms publications before they are all gone and do the best we can to make decent copies. We state early in the ads that they are reprints. The price reflects the high cost of advertising on ebay, not our profit, they charge about 1/3 the selling price in monthly carrying costs, commissions and payment overcharges as well as tax so we are not making a killing! We offer a refund if you are dissatisfied and you keep the item (we don't keep an inventory, we print to order). May I send you a feedback revision? Rob

Dear cornellpubs, Ok I will revise my review, and would appreciate the refund, I was just arnot expecting what I had received. Thanks in advance  -lg07_64

Dear cornellpubs, I am sorry to inform that I am not given a option of redoing my review, please keep the money for the trouble it has caused -lg07_64

Nothing at ebay is simple, let me send you a revision request, and I thank you for your consideration. Cheers, Rob

Thanks again, I called ebay after looking for an hour to try to find the thing I am supposed to send to revise feedback. I never did find it so I called them and they took the negative off for me "in 24-48 hours". I also asked Abby to refund your money, sorry for the complexity of this whole mess! Cheers, Rob

Dear cornellpubs, I’m sorry for all the trouble, and still thank you.

(the moral of the story is: If ya got a gripe, speak up, send us a note and we'll fix it. To go through all the eBay nonsense is an utter waste of time!)

When are you shipping  the Speer 1956 Handloader Manual No.1 to me? Paid for on 8/18/22.    vns1957 (ebay) (He bought it Thursday night at 10:30 and wrote us Saturday morning at 6:00AM )

8/20/22: Sorry, we are not Amazon and we don't stock items (actually Amazon is slowing way down on many items). We print to order over 6000 titles and it takes several weekdays to print, collate, bind, pack and ship items. We say 5 weekdays in the ads but we try to do better. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

Enfield/Webley .38 Revolver/Pistol 1942 - British Small Arms Training - Dear corenfnellpubs, Howdy, I received my manual today and it is disappointing. I do understand that it is a reprint, I figured for the money it would be a nice paperback one, not one that looks like I could print it out of my printer at home. I do not mean to disrespect, but the description of the item to what arrives does leave a lot to be desired. What is your return policy? Thank you. -37divohio (ebay)

Not sure what you expected for $8.95. Our copy is actually better than the original, 16 pages, better cover and paper, folded and stapled like the original. Perhaps you didn't like what they had to say 80 years ago? But I understand if you are disappointed. I asked Abby to refund your purchase price. Cheers, Rob                    on the other hand a different customer wrote...

Thank you for the Enfield/Webley .38 Revolver/Pistol 1942 - British Small Arms Training, it brought back memories for me and is a very nice copy. Billy Harder (ex-pat Canadian in Montana)

fallGood day, I would like to know if you are able to ship Falling Blocks and Other Single Shots from Hopkins & Allen - Carder reprints to Malaysia?  Thanks Zaim Zabidin

No, but our catalogs and manuals will be available on our new website in PDF form. If you use the "SHOP ALL" option and not the search bar to locate items, there are well over 5000 available you can buy.  Cheers, Rob

Good afternoon, I checked the site but could not find it... Can you tell me the cost to mail a printed copy of the Remington 1950 Firearms Field Service Guide & Parts Catalog to Ontario, Canada. Any help appreciated Thank you, Ashleyrem

Hello Ashley, Sorry, due to CAN. govt requirements that we collect their import duties we do not ship to Canada. The best we can offer is eBay for print or a pdf from the website. If you can’t find the pdf at oldguncatalogs.com then you can buy a “print” copy at our old website cornellpubs.com and I’ll send you a pdf in the morning. Send me a note if you go that route. Cheers, Rob

Rob, I appreciate the prompt reply.... I'm not a fan of our Government for that reason (and MANY others).... Unfortunately,  I'm not a fan of anything PDF....always prefer printed materials. Thank you again, Ashley

castGood morning. Is it possible to buy  Kimber 1982 Model 82 and Lyman 1958 Handbook of Cast Bullets 1st Edition and pay for a single shipment in Italy? Thank you. Regards, A.G.

We are not shipping internationally through the website, however, we do sell at ebay and if ebay will ship to Italy, you can buy them there. But, I am sorry to say, each must be shipped individually (ebay rules decide this not us). Cheers, Abby

I just got my order of work Breechloading Shotguns 1860 -1940 by Joseph T. Vorisek and as I had hoped the information I was looking for was in there. Hidden but there. I loved your disclaimer about the quality of his work being pre-computer and pre-copier. Without these kinds of salvage efforts much information on the “lost” guns and manufacturers would be long gone. I was able to go to a local library and find in their historical newspaper files some additional ads, that provided even more data on the guns that I am investigating. With this data I was able to explain the value to a collector that the gun she bought at a show for $150 was actually worth over $865. As always Cornell Publications has provided a very valuable and worthwhile service!!!! Earl Kern

Hey there, I'm looking to purchase a particular volume of The Breechloading Shotgun In America 1865 to 1940 that has all information related to Crescent Fire Arms Co. firearms. Is the "A-F" specification in volume 1 referring to the manufacturer's name? I know that Crescent can also be referred to as H&D Folsom Arms Co. (as another parent company name for literally hundreds of other trade names). Since "Crescent" and "H&D" might be in different volumes, I wanted to check with you. Specifically, I'm looking for the Volume where Vorisek estimates dates of production by serial number for Crescent (and child-branded company) shotguns. Thank you in advance for your help! Kat

Kat, Both Folsom and Crescent information are in Volume 1 by Vorisek... quite a lot of information actually. Cheers, Rob
************************************************
Hi Abby, I'm citing one of your books in a paper, and I can't seem to figure out the year it was originally published so that I can cite it correctly.  The book is "A Short Illustrated History of the Harrington & Richardson Arms Company (1871 to 1960)" by Joseph T. Vorisek.  I'm sure you are very busy, but any guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you! Kindly, Jaclyn Latessa

Hi Jaclyn, Joe did most of his research in the 70s and 80s while traveling New England for an insurance company. By the late 80s he was able to pull together the information that comprises his books on a computer. After he died we inherited his notes and drafts of the books and made some additions and fiddled with the pages of photocopies he had. Given all that you can see it would be hard to put a specific date to the "publication" but I think you would be safe to say c1990. Hope this helps. Cheers, Abby

wideRedfield made a variable aperture rear diopter (VARD) that had the ability to mount different optical elements as well as change the size of the aperture. I am looking for information on the device including manual, packing insert, or catalog coverage. Please let me know if you have any documents on offer that fit this description,  and if so how to order them and cost. Thank you, Phil Keuhlen

Phil, We would have only catalogs and I doubt they would have the manual you are looking for. If you can suggest which of the Redfield catalogs we sell that would have the sight, I'll look for you, but I need a date. Best, Abby

Abby, Thanks. After I sent that, the only one I see that mentions it is the Redfield 1971 Sights Catalog. Thanks for looking. Phil

Phil, Yes, there are 6 pages about them. Best, Abby

Before I purchase what is the combined shipping for 2ea. Rifle catalogs? Do you entertain offers for Firearm/Rifle catalogs? Royalcatch (ebay)

If you are stateside we can combine shipping. Just ask for a combined shipping invoice as you check out. If that fails, send Abby a note and ask her to refund any overage. If you are outside the US, ebay handles shipping and I am not sure if they can combine for a lower rate, but it is worth a try! Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

Dear Abby, I am trying to find a publication containing a specific Webley image. I have gone through your offerings, to the best of my ability and not found what I needed. Nevertheless. it may be contained in one of your publications and I am missing it. From past experience I know that you try to be helpful in such matters. Specifically, I am seeking an image of all the parts of a specific pistol laid out and identified in Webley fashion. The Pistol is the 38 HV (High Velocity) Third variation. The third variation does not have a grip safety but, that image will certainly do. Sincerely, Bob Gussman

Hello. I ordered and paid for three (3) copies of the manual for Yugoslavian Model 48/48A Mausers. However, I only received one (1) copy. The envelope contained two plastic sleeves each containing one doubled-sided sheet. I assume the manual is four pages in length. Please advise. Thank you. Wayne    usway_7vxla (ebay)

Hello Wayne, I'm sorry, that was my fault, I missed the "3" when I entered it for printing. You did get the whole thing though, two sheets, four pages. I'll send three more today and, again, I'm sorry, we are super distracted building a new website. Cheers, Rob

No, because it is 112 pages we bind it, sort of like a perfect bind. More durable that way. Rob for cornellpubs

Yes, it does have both, Rob

Hello. Some years ago I got the Darne publication from you folks. It was helpful. I’m looking for a Lefever hammerless schematic. Does the Catalogue you show on your site include a schematic or detailed images of the various parts. If so I will order it. Thanks Jackdarne

Hello Jack, The catalog features cutaway drawings of the internal parts and their locations. "Exploded" parts views did not come into fashion until after WWII. Cheers, Rob

Thanks Rob. I have only one exploded view sent me from the Lefever Arms Collectirs Association. Are there more images like this in the catalogue ?  I’m going into a disassembly project and would like to know more about the gun before I really get into it. It’s a DS model built in 1912.  If there are exploded views showing locks and ejector system and guts of the frame and barrel components, I am definitely interested. All the best to you Jack

Jack, That is a page from our catalog  reprint, it shows a cut-a-way drawing of the parts, which was the fashion of the day. There are also drawings of the individual parts, 2 piece ejector movement, and compensating screw. If you wait a couple of days you can save a few bucks by ordering a pdf from  our new website. Rob

lefThanks Rob. I will check out the pdf. I may still want paper catalogue as I’m doing this gun for a friend whose grandfather is the original owner. The catalogue might be a nice surprise when I return the gun. I will test fire at his place which just happens to have a good population of wild pheasant. The gun has not been used for decades and needed a lot of attention but I think I will be returning a great hunting gun when done. Cheers Jack

Jack, We finally have a website selling pdfs up and working reasonably well (we hope). The are the two Lefever catalogs I feel will help you: Lefever 1912 (this is the one you were sent the image from by the club) and Lefever 1913. I really hope we can help you here without too much hassle. Please let me know if there are any problems. Cheers, Rob
