“Raising World Citizens"
Arlo Yanik, Remy Yanik, Kara Yanik & Evan Yanik

Music: Linda Metzner, piano

Ireland is the ancestral home of Kara’s family, and she spent a semester in college living in Cork and attending the National University of Ireland. For her 40th birthday she wanted to go back and bring her family. Unfortunately, at the time, she could not do so due to COVID-19.  After nearly two years of
limited travel and an inordinate amount of time alone at home, Evan and Kara along with their two boys finally decided to travel to Ireland to spend a month immersed in another culture.

Having both had very poignant travel experiences in their youth, they very much want to ensure their sons inherit the travel bug. They believe that
traveling the world can teach us so many things about humanity and about ourselves. We can learn where our traditions and customs come from. We can also learn about how cultural differences help to shape individuals’ lives.  We also build resiliency and empathy for others while traveling.

During their month they got to see many of the island’s traditional tourist spots and many that are off the beaten path and want to show you what they learned on this trip.  This service will hopefully give you insight into a family trying to raise world citizens.

Please also make time this Sunday to stay after the service for a short video presentation with photos and videos from their trip!  12:00-12:30 p.m.

No Virtual RE this week
11:00 a.m. - UUCSV Supervised Play
Susan Enwright Hicks, RE Director

There will be no virtual RE this week. Families that would like to watch a story together may watch this story (read by the author) in honor of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage month. Drawn Together by Minh Le and illustrated by Dan Santat, is an incredible story of overcoming language barriers and building family bonds.

11:00a.m. at UUCSV
Susan and her family are away this week. Parent/RE Committee member, Anna Marcel De Hermanas, will be supervising/ leading any children
attending in-person this Sunday. Thanks Erin and Anna!

RE Committee Members and nursery care volunteers are needed! As we transition into in-person and multi-generational offerings, we need more help to plan our programs on Sunday mornings in RE spaces to make sure kids are safe and young visitors receive quality care. If you would like to help shape future programs, or to volunteer as an RE childcare provider, please let Susan know by email REdirector.uusv@gmail.com or by phone at 828.450-5319. Thank you!

UUCSV Annual Board Meeting

The UUCSV Board is inviting all congregational members to attend our
annual meeting on May 22, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. We will be electing a new slate of board members and approving the 2022-2023 fiscal year budget. In order to comply with the church's bylaws we must have a quorum of current members in attendance in order to enact the church's business. To help
facilitate attendance, the meeting will be hybrid with the option for members to attend live immediately after the May 22, 2022, service in the sanctuary or to stream on Zoom.

Thanks in advance for your help in moving the church forward!  We look
forward to seeing you there.

Guest Speaker - Rev. Claudia Jiminez - June 5, 2022

The sermon theme on June 5, with guest minister Rev. Claudia Jimenez from the UU Congregation of Asheville, is “the promise of UUism.” Rev. Claudia would like to incorporate haikus that our congregation submits into her
sermon. So, fellow UUCSV members and friends, “What comes to mind when you think of the promise and possibilities that UUism has to offer?”

If you will submit your haiku(s) to Andy Reed at Reedroid53@gmail.com no later than May 31,2022, I’ll forward them to Rev. Claudia, who will choose some to use that Sunday.

Thank you for participating in THIS participatory service!

Lost & Found Table

The Lost and Found table is set up in the foyer and will remain there until
after the service on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Please have a look, as there are some lovely items which need to be claimed.

Women's Group - REMINDER

The Women's Group meeting will be held Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. at the UUCSV. If it is a nice evening, we can set up outside. Hosting the event this month is Sue Stone (the new one) and anyone is invited to attend.  For this gathering we are asking everyone to bring their favorite finger food or appetizer to share. We will have water, ice tea and some wine or you may bring your own beverage. If there is a recipe that you want to share, please bring it and people can take pictures of it if they want to try it out themselves.  There will be a fun, short, not complicated icebreaker/game so we can get to know each other a bit better.  If you are able to make it, please RSVP to Sue Stone at Stonesend@gmail.com.

SAC - Circle of Welcome Update

PLEASE CONSIDER... Our Circle of Welcome family has an opportunity for a long term rental in town but their budget for rent is $300 a month short. We are asking members and friends to pay the difference by contributing $25-$50 per month for no longer than 12 months. If you want to help this young family please let Anna or Katherine know of your commitment. Plan to start paying each month beginning May 15, 2022.
