VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR YOGA STUDY
|
We are recruiting participants for a study on how yoga may meet physical activity guidelines. Research study conducted by Virginia Tech (#21-325).
• Eligible Participants: 65+ yrs old, No contraindications to physical activity; comprehension of English; Able to travel to Blacksburg, VA at In Balance Yoga Studio • Study will include heart rate monitoring and accelerometers (wearable devices that track physical movement) used during a yoga class • Time commitment: ~5 hrs spread over a 2 week time period

FOR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

We have been working on various diversity & inclusion initiatives for years, the details of which we will be making much more transparent in our future. The first matter we wish to bring to light is our YTT Diversity Scholarship, which we began raising funds for back in February of this year. We have opened up this fund for our community to donate to at any time, will be offering regularly scheduled donations based classes to raise funds, and will also be providing a full scholarship in our upcoming training to one of our diversity scholarship applicants. Our goal in this effort is to continue to cultivate a more diverse and representative teaching population in our area. Let us know if you are interested in learning more or applying.

10 MINUTES OF PRANAYAMA
|
Controlling the power of the breath is the technique of pranayama. ”Prana” is the Sanskrit word for life force. This is the energy that exists everywhere and is manifested in each of us through the breath, but prana isn’t exactly the same thing as breath or oxygen. Prana exists in all living things. It is pure energy. Every cell in our body is controlled by prana. Prana equals life. “Ayama” means a lengthening or restraining. So, putting the words together gives us “pranayama”, with means to master the life force. Pranayama techniques have been practiced for thousands of years, and you will find prana referenced in the Upanishads, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and many other yogic texts.
