Blanche Baldwin's Creativity Jukebox  Season 1, Episode 9
Kaizen-Muse Creativity Tools

"I tasted blue, it tasted grape.
It smelled of delphinium and pie and the sea.
I spun it in the air, blue turned to cadmium, azure, denim, satin, velvet.
It turned green in the sun's yellow and midnight as the moon turned its back.

Then I set blue free.....
It seeped out of the tub, out my door and in grand ceremony,
at once filled bird and sky and ocean..."

 In the Issue:

Dear ,

Hi there.  In the latest episode of A Muse's Daydream, I interview, Blanche Baldwin, a Muse Broker who smokes crayons. She has a special jukebox that may give you a better tune to hum about yourself. I interviewed her at Lester's Bar and Grill off of the New Jersey turnpike at Exit 14.

Humans are at the mercy of a negativity bias we inherited to stay alive when hostile tribes were trying to kill us and sabertooth tigers wanting to eat us. Focusing on what's wrong helped with our survival but that feature of our fabric over compensates these days.

In the modern day, we still have negative thoughts: judgments, criticisms, and focusing on what's wrong is a default place we go to and also helpful in certain areas. But it in the creative process it is especially a problem if we are stuck in the loops of, "I'm not good enough," "It's already been done.," "Others are doing it better than me," "I never find the time to be creative."  These thoughts are not necessarily true but they become a belief system we operate by if we don't short circuit them.

They needn't be an obstacle continuing to cultivate our skills or in enjoying the process. We don't need to eliminate our negativity bias - it comes with the factory settings - but we DO need to give more airtime to messages that inspire, motivate, and nurture our creativity. They feel better too.

I know I routinely admonish myself for not getting enough done and feel shame - because I'm human and we do that. Then I catch that less evolved part of myself and shift into focusing on giving myself credit for all I've done. It's a takes climbing up the ladder a bit to higher consciousness, it takes practice for it to absorb, - but it motivates my action and I feel better when I'm active in my creative pursuits

Blanche's Creativity Jukebox is a tool I use in virtually all my groups in the form of what I call The Reminder Journal. See more below in Creativity Prompts.

THE REMINDER JOURNAL
Devote a journal to recording messages, quotes, compliments, creative principles that resonate with you and build your creative self. In order to begin to retrain your thinking, refer to this journal, read it, reread it, commit it to memory. Put it in your bathroom, by your bed. Repetition is the ONLY way to make a difference with a mind that has been stuck in a negativity bias for years.

If you made a Creativity Jukebox for yourself, what messages would YOU want to hear? Draw a jukebox with your non-dominant hand...

FREE YOURSELF
Currently, focus and attention spans may be compromised. The only way I could make some progress with my creativity was to plug into something I was so passionate about, it neutralized and cancelled out the distractions. I also show up regularly for parallel universe time, partner up with a friend in Phoenix on the phone, and you can too. See it listed below... It's FREE!

SMALL STEPS
Ask yourself: How can I make what I want to do easier? Just ask. Let the answer percolate or notice how you start organically making it easier.

Break it down so small it's hard not to do it. Start with 30 seconds. Let momentum or intuition for your next step take over.
