Almost all indigenous cultures had direct, hands-on methods of healing, what we now call bodywork. The Cherokee people of North America, for example, were well versed in body therapies and energy healing.
They developed a comprehensive, sophisticated bodywork system that encompassed a massage and manipulation, breath, and energy work. Evidence is accumulating that A.T. Still, the creator of American osteopathy, drew much of his inspiration and his techniques from the Cherokee, Shawnee, and Pawnee of Missouri in mid-19th century.
In this workshop participants will:
a. Observe and learn some aspects of Cherokee Body Work and its methods and including how they compare to osteopathy
b. Learn about Cherokee breath work techniques as a means of restoring spirit to all parts of the body.
c. Learn about the incorporation of imagery and dialogue into bodywork.
d. Learn about the importance of drama, ceremony, ritual and intent in healing practices, including bodywork or massage therapy.
