Astral Awareness & Insight by Gaia
Full Moon, May 7th & New Moon in Gemini on May 22nd
As we are all adapting to a new of living, day by day, I too have shifted this post to reflect the astrological weather for the entire month of May.

As it used to be,  I am describing this month's New Moon and Full Moon, as well as planetary events that seem particularly relevant. Before exploring the astrology of this month,  I do hope that you are taking as good care of yourself and your loved ones as you possibly can.  These days feel like an extended earthquake, and as it would be in such a case, we'll make sure to be able to feel as safe as we possibly could. The Aquarian spirit speaks in the collective, with the voice that says, "we are in this together." or with the words "far away, so, so, close." While we are made aware of our interdependence, we also all grapple with our own individual experiences,  challenges,  recognition of possible positions of privilege. To cultivate our own well-being, emotional/mental/physical/spiritual feel essential. I wrote them all in one word because they are interdependent, from one depends on the other. We are navigating revolutionary times that can lead us to profound changes as a species if we allow this time to touch our hearts and heal us just as the planet is healing from our absence.  Out of revolutions, come evolutions, and such changes begin with each one of us. My heart goes out to all directly impacted by this pandemic, and my sincerest gratitude goes to all that are sacrificing themselves to assist those of us that are home.

May 7 Scorpio Full Moon: Intense Transformations

May begins with a Full Moon in Scorpio, which opposes the sign of Taurus where the Sun is transiting until May 20th. While Taurus invites us to "sense" into the beauty and regenerative powers of nature, Scorpio evokes the process of death and decay, ever-present in our earthy realm. In the soil, water and heat propel seeds to break out of their shells as a tiny, delicate sprout is born.  Likewise, delicate and beautiful flowers dry up after blooming. Some simply have lived long enough, feeding a verity of insects. Some flowers, through the process of fertilization, slowly die, losing their petals and transform in tiny fruits and veggies.

This constant, irrevocable, transformation from one form to the next is represented by Scorpio and this sign ruler Pluto, or Hades for the Greeks. He presided over the underworld, over the richness the depths of Earth, and over the process of death, decay and rebirth. It's that invisible yet beyond powerful, force that knows no nuances. Pluto's presence, along with Saturn, in Capricorn, has constellated the decay and break down of our system in such an unprecedented way. That Pluto rules this Full Moon suggests that the time might invite us to reckon with what has unfolded this year. We might come to a deeper felt realization of the loss of lives, and of the fragility of life. In our lives, we might experience a moment of intensified grief that comes to bloom with Scorpio moon. We might harness this energy by asking, once more, what in the face of endings, really matter to us? To let our hearts and soul be touched by that energy can be a catalyst for our own transformation. Like a seed shedding the protective shell, we might slowly, in small ways, shed layers of dead weight.

Perceiving life through Scorpio lenses feels as if everything is a matter of life and death. Such intensity might emerge in the way we communicate, as Mercury will be conjunct the Sun in Taurus. It will be ruled by Venus stationing retrograde in Gemini (more on this below.) Scorpio time is a great time to explore Scorpion themes, and delve into whatever we might feel passionate about, or that we love…to death. Letting that passion and vitality flow through and guide us might assist us in channeling this energy.

May 10-13: Saturn, Jupiter and Venus retrograde

Three planets will turn retrograde right after the Full Moon. Saturn will change direction on May 10th at 1 degree Aquarius. He will walk back all the way to 25 degrees Capricorn, until September 29th. Venus will turn retrograde on May 12th at 21 degrees of Gemini until June  24th, when she'll turn direct again at 5 degrees Gemini. Jupiter will also turn retrograde on May 14th at 27 Capricorn until September 13th,  when he will turn direct again at 17 Capricorn.   Every year Jupiter and Saturn turn retrograde, and those of us who have planets near the degrees of the stations will experience those days more intensely. Usually, there are particular events,  decisions, or realizations made during these times, according to the nature of the planet. However, that all of them change direction within days, might suggest an eventful beginning of the month, which might add surprises to this uncertain time. While some might be challenging, others might offer opportunities.

Briefly, Saturn represents the awareness that we have a limited time on this earthy dimension. Near the station,  we might feel pressed to focus on commitments and responsibilities we have in our lives. What choices do we need to make? What responsibilities are we willing to take up? What have we fulfilled and are ready to drop? Those with planets and points between 23 Capricorn, Libra, Cancer and Aries, and 1 Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio, and  Leo are going to feel this more intensely.

Whereas Saturn restricts and cuts what's lifeless, Jupiter represents opportunities for growth, expansion, and luck. Jupiter expands and amplifies what it touches, constellating in our lives a much-needed sense of hope in the future. There might be beliefs we come into contact with that allow us to sense and cultivate a renewed sense of purpose and confidence in life. Acknowledging our blessings also enables us to slowly grow that "jovial" aspect of ourselves. However, as Jupiter is transiting in Capricorn, the sign of his fall, suggests that commitment, work, and humility are needed. Those with planets and points near 27th Capricorn, Cancer,  Libra, and  Aries, might have a more tangible experience of this station.

Unlike Saturn and Jupiter, the Venus retrograde cycle is not a yearly one. It is particularly important as it happens during the complex astrological weather in May and June. Venus goes retrograde on May 12th, at 21 degrees of Gemini. She will disappear from the evening sky around June 3rd when she will conjunct the Sun, beginning a new cycle. She will then reappear as a morning star rising before dawn and move direct again at 5 degrees Gemini on June 24th. During this time, Mercury, ruler of Gemini, will also go retrograde on June 17th. Last, we'll enter an eclipse period with a Lunar eclipse/Full moon on June 5th at 15 Sagittarius, which opposes Gemini. This will be followed by a solar eclipse at 0 degree Cancer on June 21st, and a Lunar eclipse at 13 Capricorn on July 5th.  Such complex weather suggests unpredictability, retracing our steps, perhaps a new understanding of the current state of our world that might come to light during eclipses.

Venus retrograde invites us to re-evaluate, re-assess, and review all that Venus in Gemini constellates in our charts. Generally speaking, Venus represents love, values, relationship, and friends,  or friends that are like siblings (Gemini). Lovers or exes might likely come back into our lives, by coincidence or choice.  Venus offers us an opportunity to re-assess the value of our relationships.  What did we love and value so much in that person? What might have changed? For those in committed relationships, the time is right to learn (Gemini) how to communicate, how to express love and appreciation to partners, and re-consider what we might have expressed before. The days near the station on May 12th, Venus at 21 Gemini will square Neptune at 20 Pisces. This configuration is particularly significant, as it will last until May 25th when Venus will begin moving backward again after having slowed down at the station.

May 22: Gemini New Moon, Venus retrograde conjunct Mercury in Gemini: Being of Two Minds

As we enter the second part of May,  the New Moon in Gemini on May 22nd marks the beginning of the eclipse period as the culmination of this lunation will be a Lunar Eclipse. Just as in the sky, the Sun and the Moon are partly or totally occulted, so we, on Earth,  might experience what happens with a sense of surprise or reactivity. Our lights are obscured, and likewise,  we are in the dark. I'll address more of this cycle next month, however,  a sense of uncertainty, unpredictability, and unusual events and coincidence might begin constellating around the new Moon. It's important to remember this proposition as time will allow for more clarity to come and for us to digest what unfolds under eclipses.

An interesting representation of such odd coincidences is the position of the planets at this new Moon cycle. The new Moon is on 5/22/2020 when both Sun and Moon will meet at 2 degrees 05 while Mercury and Venus will be conjunct at 20 degrees of Gemini.  The sign of the twins, represented by two siblings, constellates a repetition of number 2, where the new Moon is, and 20, where both Mercury and Venus will be. All of this happens on 5/22/2020!

Mercury, which disposes of the new Moon, and Venus will both square Neptune at 20 degrees Pisces. Such configuration will color the month and the Venus retrograde cycle. Neptune infuses with magic, or confusion what it touches. One expression of this Venus retrograde and New Moon might be a lack of clarity, confusion, and deception, for Neptune, like a fog, distort the message conveyed. It will be essential to make a double effort to communicate clearly, particularly in matters of love, financial dealings, and in our relationships. Or, it might be wise to make clear, we are unclear, we know that we don't know,  and we might feel in a fog if that's the case.  On a collective level, this planetary configuration might constellate a time of conflicting news and change of plans, especially in matters of Venus, money, and values. The square from Neptune suggests that confusion might linger, and it will be up to each one of us to cultivate, step by step,  our capacity to feel safe and present and deal with these circumstances.

Neptune's constructive aspects might emerge, as well. Neptune touches the deeper chords of our hearts, particularly when contacting Venus. It might feel as if the stuff of fairytales and movies break into our lives. We might also experience a sense of universal healing and connection. Acts of selfless love (Venus-Neptune) might emerge in the collective that inspire us and guide us to engage in practices that transcend ourselves. Perhaps it might be acts of kindness and generosity for those who are not privileged and struggle more at this time.  Neptune blurs the line of boundaries of perception and understanding, so for those that struggle with setting boundaries, it might be wise to remember we are humans and with limited resources.

This planetary configuration also invites us to re-engage with practices that allowed us to be creative. For those who played music, this time will be right to go back to that practice. Or to review old pictures, watch old movies, or dancing, meditation, and rituals, poetry, art-making, cooking of any kind.  We might all ask, how do we go back and contact the divine, the spirit, that nourishes our soul? In retracing an old passion we had, we might be able to grasp a more profound sense of what we love and value.

Relationships beginning at this time might have a magical aura. However, as Venus will not be visible in the sky and change direction on June 26th, walking a third time over her path in July, our perception might change. We might then ask what this journey can teach us about love and connection?
For those in committed monogamous or polyamorous relationships, Venus retrograde invite us to clarify existing issues and learning new ways to communicate with one another. Neptune presence suggests learning to communicate through means other than words…How do we communicate through touch? Through poetry?  Through pictures? Or through energy & presence? Images can express more than a thousand words, and this Venus cycle will be a good one to do so.

Those with planets in Gemini and Sagittarius, and to a lesser extent, Virgo and Pisces, might resonate with this cycle. It might also worth looking back at the Spring/Summer of 2012 when this Venus retrograde cycle took place.

Last, a few notes on the new Moon in Gemini, the first air sign, symbolized by the twins, Castor and Pollux. They were ere very different but close to one another. Pollux was known for his strength, sometimes aggression while Castor for his intellect, his musical and artistic talents.  One was mortal and one divine, they lived in different realms, had different experiences, and continuously sought their missing half. In this myth, we can grasp the essence of this sign,  which represents curiosity and flexibility,  an attunement to the realm of ideas, and eager to learn something new. When we say that a person is of "two minds," we do speak of the quality of having two people living inside oneself and of the difficulty in committing to one choice. This New Moon invites us to deepen our connection to our inner Gemini: how do we make space for different parts ourselves?  What can we learn that can help us listen and communicate in more effective and mindful ways?  As we might have the opportunity to reconnect with friends, exes, or siblings, this time invites us to hold in our awareness that curious attitude.  Duality will be a theme of this time, and an opportunity to appreciate differences while keeping connected.

To all, I wish to find support within yourself and with one another.
May you all be safe and healthy.

All despair is followed by hope; all darkness is followed by sunshine.” (Rumi)
