Gemini Full Moon (12/2) and Jupiter in Capricorn
"The air of ideas is the only air worth breathing." (Edith Warton)

“Curiosity keeps leading us on new paths.” (Walt Disney)

"It's in the air!" we often say with some trepidation as new ideas seem to be spreading all around us. The air, this immense invisible space in which we are immersed, is essential to life,  and it is the element Gemini belongs to. Like air, the sign of the Twins symbolizes the lightness of ideas and fluidity of communication; like the wind, it epitomizes continuous movement. And like a butterfly flying from flower to flower, it signifies curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge. Gemini, ruled by Mercury, the messenger of the Gods, speaks of all that relates to communication: talking and listening, studying and teaching, researching and writing, as well as like the Twins, siblings, friends and best buddies that just feel like our brother or sister.

We also say that one is “up in the air” for those that are concerned with ideas and theories, and  that approach life differently  from those we describe as having “their feet firmly planted to the ground.” Such diverse ways of living and approaching our existence are likely to constellate at the Full Moon at 19 degrees in Gemini on December 12th. The Moon will be inconjunct  Saturn, Pluto, and  Venus in Capricorn, while she will oppose the Sun in Sagittarius,  ruled by Jupiter in Capricorn, where he moved on December 2nd. Jupiter, the great “encourager” of the zodiac,  principle of growth and expansion, has moved away from Sag where he was since last December 2018. Jupiter has joined a very earthy sign of Capricorn, where he'll stay until December 2020.  Less grandiose than in Sag, Jupiter in Capricorn suggest expansion and opportunities that require commitments and effort, in this sign, even the giver of luck is more constraint and cautious as he moves on to join Pluto and Saturn in 2020.

Gemini's natural lightness, friendliness, and love for freedom might feel somehow restrained by the aspect to the Capricorn planets. As inconjunct, these signs require great consciousness, for they have very little in common and yet integrate the fundamental aspect of what being human means.
Gemini represents the realm of ideas that change and flow; it invites us to explore, exchange thoughts, and remain flexible in our beliefs. Capricorn builds on ideas by making them real and long-lasting, somehow giving a body to the Gemini spirit, which might, in turn, feel “trapped” in something that can no longer change. Capricorn values commitment and steady growth, planning step by step, and mastering a particular practice. Gemini instead moves quickly and likes to explore, enjoying a variety of practices. At the Full Moon, a specific situation might constellate that highlight such diverse aspects. Gemini's sparkling curiosity might be colored by a greater sense of responsibility and obligations. Venus, in between Pluto and Saturn, suggests that serious questions might arise around love, friendships, relationship, and financial dealings.  The sign of eternal youth, the Peter Par or Puer of the zodiac, will face the sign of the Old Wise Woman/Man, as we are called to balance the need for patience with that one
for a change.

Gemini, as the twins, the tricksters, the messenger also highlight the polarity with Sagittarius, where the new Moon was on November 26th. Where Sag sees the bigger picture, occasionally preaching that theirs is the only truth,  Gemini interests for a million, and more perspectives remind us that we never know it all. In days of possible intense pressure (particularly for those with planets and points between 10 and 24 Capricorn, Cancer, Aries, and Libra), we might remember Gemini's lightness and the graciousness of birds and butterflies that restlessly fly from flower to flower.

Gemini also reminds us that we are always students, and we eagerly enrich ourselves with new words. It reminds us of the importance of words and languages as they allow us to express what we know and what we know not. In the lovely book "They have a word for it", we read of other cultures and languages words to describe and suddenly illuminate perhaps what is lost in our owns, or never acknowledged. In such a way, we experience the world in diverse ways depending on the differences in our language, because language shapes the way we think.

Whatever situation we might be,  we might simply imagine our inner twin asking questions. In learning new words, we expand our knowledge, and we are given perspective and ...food for thoughts.   In the realm of communication, I wish the borrow the word “Dadirri,” coming from the language spoken by the People of the Northern Territory in Australia. Dadirri means inner, deep listening and quiet, still awareness. It is a 'tuning in' experience with the specific aim to come to a deeper understanding of the beauty of nature." It implies listening with our whole body, perhaps from a state that we cannot fully comprehend but that indicates being fully present and attentive in a way that might be largely foreign to us. Or imagine the Swedish word “gokotta” which means to get up early and be outside to hear the birds or appreciate nature. A word that creates space in the day for recognition of the beauty of nature and might be an invitation to notice what surrounds us in the early hours of the day.

Overall, the curious and vivacious energy of Gemini might be a bit weighed down, however  this full Moon still remind us to value the importance of relationships, especially with siblings, and best buddies, and to keep flexible and moving, like the air we breathe.  In the spirit of Gemini, I leave you to these simple yet poignant suggestion:

Human knowledge is never contained in one person. It grows from the relationships we create between each other and the world, and still it is never complete.” (Paul Kalanithi)
