"The only thing we have to fear is Fear itself". Wise words spoken during the midst of America's Great Depression by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It seems, once again, we are living in fearful times with some of our leaders playing on our fears instead of helping us navigate through them. It is all too easy for us as individuals to give up hope and retreat into the darkness. But just as Winter Solstice is the darkest day of the year and is also a time to nurture and celebrate the light, I believe we, too, can find ways to bolster our courage and persevere. And I believe we are stronger together.
So, as we approach Winter Solstice, let us come together to face our individual and collective fears through the ritual of building a community Despacho (South American based prayer bundle). Through this symbolic ritual, we can shift our consciousness to the mythic level, create the shift we want to experience there and then bring that renewed Hope into the material world. To paraphrase Gandhi, let us "be the change we want to see in the world" and walk in a good way through these times with perseverance and wisdom.
Please bring your prayers/intentions for facing your fears and restoring balance to your life. In honor of ancient Winter Solstice traditions, you are welcome to bring a small evergreen offering (no more than 2-3" long) to add to the Despacho. All other materials are included; please register in advance so there's enough for everyone.
