Libra New Moon & Aries Full Moon: the art of diplomacy in transformative times.

“I got saved by poetry and I got saved by the beauty of the world.”
Mary Oliver

“Beauty is life when life unveils her holy face. But you are life and you are the veil.” Kahlil Gibran

“That is what happens when the heart door opens- you become less yourself than part of everything.”
Roger Housden

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" we say about the subjective experience of being pleased on a multisensory and heart levels. It might be by the view of a peaceful, emerald-green-sapphire-blue lake mirroring back the mountains peaks, by a majestic tree whose branches reach down to the soil, by an ancient sculpture of a deity, by the drops of rain on a clouded window. The Earth and arts beauty may heal our soul and our bodies in ways words cannot describe. Or it`s the pleasure of love, of being face to face with a person whose eyes sparkles like stars with love for us. In the reciprocal experience of loving and being loved, listening and being listened, appreciating and being appreciated, we find pleasure, healing and gratification. Such pleasurable activities, as different as they might be,  are associated with the planet Venus, ruler of Libra, the sign in which the first new Moon of this Fall season is marking a time of renewal and beginnings. The experience of beauty and love is one that is subjective but that unequivocally fulfills Libra, that also strive for harmony and balance. Libra meaning and symbol, a pair of scale in balance, convey the archetypal pattern of this sign: to relate and communicate, to listen and evaluate, to find ways to build bridges that create connections where there were none. Libras resonates more with  “keep balance” than  “tips the scale”, for diplomacy is the gift of this sign. This time marks the importance of connections, relationships with partners, lovers, friends and the more than human world, and appreciation of the experience of beauty and harmony.

However, this new Moon, requires awareness, for  pressure and intensity have been building, and greater effort might be require to honor Libras values. The planet Pluto is stationing on October 2nd, when he will begin again the journey forward just a few weeks after Saturn stationed direct on 9/18. A planet stationing, particularly Pluto, feels like a slow but steady increase of temperature,  almost pushing a thermometer to its breaking peak point. While Libra sees nuances and gradations in very fine details, Pluto in Capricorn sees black and whites, red and blue, piercing to the  core  of the matter with intensity and passion. Such is the underworld, a dimension of extremes, an archetypal energy that constellates our strive for survival and pushes us to change personal and collective values. We may be the agent of changes, or we may ignore it, or we may attempt to hold space for the transformation, aware of our responses so that we can channel this energy in conscious way rather than repress it. The Pluto station may feel like the pressure of an erupting volcano, particularly as the sign of Capricorn is being transited by both Pluto and Saturn which will be conjunct next early January.
Those with planets in cardinal sign, Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn,  might feel this more intensely as they have been encountering a year (or two) filled with responsibility, decisions, commitments, that might have altered life in profound ways.

The days before the new Moon, and the day until the Moon is visible in the sky after sunset on the 30th, (depending on where you are in the world),  are days for meditation, rest, and releasing. Just as the moon is dark and absent from the night sky, so we rest in the nourishing and restful space of darkness and silence, tapping into our emotional and somatic selves, finding time to offer our ears and awareness to  all the places within ourselves. As Libra calls for, these are days where we might engage in experiencing the healing power of beauty and harmony allowing ourselves to discover what might be pleasing, giving us a respite and solace. The inconjunct of Uranus from Taurus to the new Moon, suggests that we might find ourselves strangely surprised, as we contemplate a new landscape perhaps, or we see with new and fresh senses what is close to us as we honor this beautiful planet that is our home and that our species is threatening.

This time is appropriate for setting our intentions, by writing them down on a journal, or perhaps a letter that we may put in an envelope and read out loud from time to time. We may use  “I” or “We”, as a way to honor all the places inside of us, all the planets within, recognizing all the efforts each one is putting to pursue what is most valuable to our hearts. Like when we hold a camera and focus the lens, those particular intentions will be held in view and close to our heart and mind through the month.

As an air sign, Libra also rules the arts, sculpture, painting, music,  poetry, reading, writing, and all those activities that bring us into relationships where we can communicate and be listened to.  With Venus and Mercury also in Libra, we might hone  our capacity to listening and speaking in clear and honest ways. Mark Nepo reminds us that as there are 7000 languages on the planet and ways of speaking, there might be as well 7000 ways of listening. Listening requires us to make space inside of us for what we are told and being open to change our perspectives. In so doing, we may arrive at new conclusions and begin the cycle all over again. As we practice our ways of listening, we may also use not only our ears but our entire bodies. Our bodies speak in sensations, perhaps a tightness in the chest, a tingling in our feet,  a pain in the  shoulders, a sudden sense of butterflies in the stomach. This is the language of the body that make for us to be in conversation to ourselves, as well as we relate to others humans, or to the more than human world. This speaks to us through the wagging tails of our dogs, to the birds flying by, to the wind caressing our faces, carrying messages from here and beyond.

As we face time of challenges and possible disagreements, Libra new moon encourages us to evaluate and assess, carefully weighing our options. The station of Pluto might feel threatening or coloring our perceptions with such intensity, so that it might be wise to embrace Libra capacity to express ourselves with care with those we agree with and with those with whom we are in conflict with. The art of diplomacy is called an art for a reason, as it is a skill to be practiced as one may learn to paint with words rather than brushes.

Overall, Pluto`s pressure might release its grip after October  2nd /3rd as the planet begins moving forward again. It won't be for too long as the October full Moon on the 13th/14th calls for transformation and action as we might be dealing with a dynamic and challenging planetary configuration.  We may pay attention to what happens close to this station early in the month, for the Sun will then be  at 20 degrees of Aries, in exact square to Pluto in Capricorn and the Moon in Libra. This full Moon will also be the first one with Saturn and Pluto  moving direct again since last Spring,  a particularly important time for cardinal signs. The Moon may shed light on decisions that have finally matured and be ready to act on, or that might be manifesting in concrete ways. In a way this full Moon challenges Libra once again, for the dynamic square to Pluto suggests tensions, power struggles and a desire to bring fundamental changes in those areas of life that have been undergoing a process of decay, and restructuring.

That it falls in the sign of Aries, the sign that most constellates action for it is always ready to step forward and fight for a cause, symbolizes a time to act with courage and communicate what is dear to us in a way that leaves space for adjustment and change. The presence of Pluto allows us to bring more consciousness to our actions, to uncover deep rooted patterns, identify our motivations and fears with compassion. It might also bring to light  power struggles, and help us recognize where we hold on for fear of loss of control, for fear of being deprived or taken advantage of.  In other words, this planetary configuration may deeply touch us in those raw places that live in the shadow of our inner forests, and that once acknowledged and explored mark a time of profound shift in our growth.

Pluto suggests that the deeper shifts in the collective might affect us deeply,  and ask us to reconsider our perspectives, recognizing that we no longer thrive in fighting for ourselves alone, rather we thrive in honoring our diversities,  in remembering that we are in this journey together as humans that share the planet with other species equally to us and deserving our own same rights.

Last but not least, it might be helpful to give a voice to all those place in us, as well as to our dreams, fantasies, journeys, and intuitions, for they all might be of very great help to gather insights in our  own inner, hidden motivations.

For some, in such times of revolutionary changes, these might be times for fighting, when Libra scales tips on one side, and justice is restored by standing up with courage for the well being of those that do not have a voice. This month might be the right time to speak up once more. As Jupiter will trine the Full Moon, there are opportunities for finding common ground in the mist of negotiations.

To whole I wish an inspiring New Moon and beginning of Fall time.

“Shards of glass can cut and wound or magnify a vision. Mosaic celebrates brokenness and the beauty of being brought together.”
Terry Tempest Williams
