Summer is the time of growth for all beings and is considered the season of Fire. Ancient Chinese shamans also noted that Summer was the season of the Heart. Just as the Sun brings heat and growth, it can also cause drought if it's not balanced with rain. So, too, when fire is out of balance, it can destroy.
At the Summer Solstice, we will look to balance our Heart's Fire by creating individual Ayni Despachos and offering them to the water by tossing them into the Hudson River.
You will learn how to build a personal despacho inside a tortilla shell and, under LinDel's guidance, you'll fold it into a little tied up bundle. Then, you will have an opportunity that evening to go over to a park at the 44th Street pier and toss your Despacho into the Hudson River (the 42nd street crosstown bus takes us right there). You may also choose to let LinDel take it for you. Or, if you have access to a large body of flowing water near where you live, you may take your despacho with you and offer it there (ideally within 2-3 days).
A Despacho is a South American medicine bundle (similar to a mandala) that holds natural elements, such as beans, corn, rice, and sugar, which represents the sweetness of Life. Ayni is an Q'ero Inka term for Right Relationship or Balance. As the elements are mindfully added into the Ayni Despacho, it becomes a living prayer which brings energy shifts for healing and balance. It is also an offering back to Mother Earth - and in this case the Mother of the Waters - for all they provide.
Please bring the prayers and intentions of your Heart. All materials will be provided; please register in advance so there's enough for everyone.
