Within the famous codex book known as the Popol Vuh of the Quiché Maya, the name Balam refers to the jaguar as the first nations. Records of these dances have come to light through various murals, codices. These dancing in the ancient world carried a much deeper significance in their sophisticated culture.

We admire the Jaguar for its qualities of ferocity and strength, the colorful skin symbolizing its protective role in the Passion. The community gathers at this time and dance dressed in jaguar masks and yellow-spotted clothing. Although, they are beautiful but deadly, the jaguar evokes powerful human emotions. Strong and agile identified with the qualities which made human hunters and warriors brave and successful regarded as the spirit-helper of shamans.

Join us in the dance of the Jaguar and journey to reenact the dances that still take place in rural villages. Awakening the ally and companions through the masks, dress in jaguar print and shape-shift with the mythical Jaguar lords mimicking their stance as they dance with one heel raised and toes pointing down symbolized the dancing to appear as a mix of animal and human. It is an important dance for the people, the jaguar deity in acknowledgement  sends rain to fertilize the maize, keep our crops and people well in exchange.
