The Rivers Coalition meeting is Wednesday, September 28th at 6:00 pm at Stuart City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and there is plenty of free parking available. Refreshments will be provided.

Kevin Henderson
 
Kevin Henderson attended the University of Florida where he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. His school and work history include many areas of community involvement and recognition, some of which are: Outstanding Local Elected Official in Florida (1996), Florida Association of City and County Managers, Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering, International Who's Who Business Professional Category, Water Conservationist of the Year (2006), Florida Wildlife Federation, Conservationist of the Year (2007) TC Chapter, and Coastal Conservationist Association.
 
Kevin has over 35 years of work experience in Engineering. He is currently President of Evergreen Engineering. He also has an extensive career in Public Service, he is currently a chair with the Rivers Coalition Defense Fund. Previously Kevin has worked as a Mayor and Commissioner, City of Stuart; Chairman, Treasure Coast Council of Local Governments; Chairman, Metropolitan Planning Organization of Martin County; Chairman, Watershed Action Committee of Martin County; Stormwater Utility Advisory Committee, Martin County Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Florida League of Cities; Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Martin County Business Development Board; Planning and Zoning Board, City of Stuart; Chairman, Martin County Conservation Alliance and various other service organizations.

Indian Riverkeeper Work Day
 
Former Florida Governor/ Senator Bob Graham and his daughter, U.S. Representative, Gwen Graham toured with Indian Riverkeeper Marty Baum, along with ORCA's Dr. Edie Widder and Rivers Coalition members in August.
 


 
 
 
 
Dancin' In the Streets
 
The Dancin' in the Streets festival took place on August 20th. This year's event brought national and local bands to downtown Stuart. The Rivers Coalition thanks those who came out to visit our booth during this exciting event.
 
 


 
Reggae for the River
 
The Dirty River Jam, Reggae for the River, took place at Terra Fermata on Sunday August, 28th. This event raises awareness and donations for several local non profit organizations including the Rivers Coalition. Thank you to all of those who made this event a success!
 


 
 
Sierra Club's Big Sugar Summit in West Palm Beach
 
Captain Mike Conner presented at the Big Sugar Summit which took place on August 20th in West Palm Beach.
 
 
 
 
Everglades Restoration Workshop
 


 
Lines in the Lagoon
 
Registration is NOW OPEN for the 3rd annual Lines in the Lagoon Tri County Junior Fishing Tournament. This event takes place on October 1st. Slots are limited to the first 125 anglers.

 
At the end of the tournament, prizes will be awarded at a FUN casual dinner at Captain Hiram's Resort in Sebastian. For more information on this event please see the link below:

 
 
 


 
Stuart Seafood Festival
 
 
Mark your calendars for the Stuart Seafood Festival on November 19th & 20th. Come volunteer at the Rivers Coalition Booth and enjoy free entry to the weekend's events!

Martin County River Kidz
 
River Kidz Events
 
River Kidz Chairs, Nic Mader and Jacqui Thurlow Lippisch presented Mark Perry with a donation to Florida Oceanographic Center at the August Rivers Coalition meeting.
 


 
The River Kidz visited Mrs. Jacobsen's class at Citrus Grove Elementary.

 


 
 
A  new  workbook is in development! The River Kidz are creating the newest edition of the Marty the Manatee workbook. The workbooks will include updated information and will be distributed to even more kidz across Florida!

Speakers Bureau
On Monday, September 28th, Marty Baum, our Indian Riverkeeper and speaker for the Rivers Coalition, is invited to speak at the Old Palm City Neighbors Potluck Dinner. Marty's presentation consists of a review of the history of the Lake, the current problems and solutions. This will be followed by Q&A.

 August 25th Rivers Coalition Meeting Highlights
 
On August 25th a panel of experts including Mark Perry, Charles Grande and Gary Goforth, Ph. D, presented "Restore the River of Grass Flow" and answered questions from members.
