Eric Bibb :: THE HAPPIEST MAN IN THE WORLD
The Happiest Man in the World is a 14-track tasty gumbo of country blues songs recorded in the English countryside with an exuberant, soulful spirit that feels like the perfect soundtrack for relaxing on the back porch or the front parlor. Led by multiple Blues Music Award-winner Eric Bibb, this stellar acoustic band is made up of musicians who have known each other for years. It features famed upright bassist Danny Thompson, whose resume includes work with such acclaimed artists as Alexis Korner, Donovan, Richard Thompson (no relation), Pentangle and John Martyn. The album also includes a bonus instrumental track, “King Size Bed,” which is available only in the Deluxe digital edition....More details about this release here

Gus Spenos :: IF YOU WERE GOLD BABY
Fans of jump, swing and boogie, rejoice: You have a new artist to play! Gus Spenos is a blues man with the shouting style of some of the all-time greats who also has serious sax chops (and the day job of being a top neurologist in Indianapolis). On If You Were Gold Baby, Spenos and his big band prove they know how to lay down tracks that make listeners want to move and groove.

On a set that mixes classic-sounding originals such as the title track with a varied selection of carefully chosen standards, Spenos teams with eight-time trombonist of the year Wycliffe Gordon and legendary drummer Cecil Brooks III. Thelonious Monk vocal finalist Charanee Wade even joins Spenos in a duet as they unearth the old Jimmy Preston song “Rock With It, Baby.”

Bridging the Blues… Connecting Arkansas, Memphis and Mississippi with Live Music
(MS, TN, AR) - Since 2000 the Delta region has enjoyed a blues renaissance, with the arrival of new festivals, venues, museums, and the Mississippi Blues Trail series of historic markers. In order to help maximize visitors’ experiences of the area’s blues riches, the “Bridging the Blues” project is bringing you America’s music by coordinating events over a multi-week period, from September to October.

Weekend-long events include the Mighty Mississippi Music Festival in Greenville, Mississippi (September 30-October 2) and the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas (October 5-8) plus many more opportunities for live music and exhibits throughout the area to make the most of your visit! ...Bridging the Blues info here and here
The Seventh Annual Daytona Blues Festival Returns October 7-8-9
(Daytona Beach, FL) - The Daytona Blues Festival returns to Jackie Robinson Ball Park, downtown Daytona Beach, October 7th, 8th and 9th. From Friday’s all women fronted bands to Marcia Ball’s headline performance through Sunday’s traditional Victor Wainwright’s close, it promises to be an event to remember.

For the first time, the Friday lineup is a true showcase of women in blues. Vanessa Collier opens the festival with her powerful voice and amazing saxophone. She is followed by the unique Long Tall Deb featuring Colin John. Katy Guillen and The Girls then add their fiery, energetic Kansas City influenced blues to the main stage. As the sun goes down, the crowd will be treated to Carolyn Wonderland’s rough and raw Janis Joplin-esque howl and impeccable riffs. Finally, the night closes with the incomparable Shakura S’Aida. ...Read full story and see more images here
Copenhagen Blues Festival 2016 & Blues Awards Sept 28-Oct 2
(Copenhagen & Fredericksburg, Denmark) - It's Autumn, and once again, it’s time for "Blue Copenhagen." For 5 days, starting Wednesday Sept. 28-Oct 2, the Blues will sound all over the city, and we invite all blues fans to visit the city's many clubs and venues for a week of world class international blues, and some very good homegrown blues.

The Blues is many things, it is tradition, but also innovation and evolution. The festival is famous for its presentation of The Blues in a fine balance between tradition and new expressions, and their constant musical ambition is to cover all styles of blues and to present a program of the highest possible international level. So, as always, you'll find the seasoned blues veterans performing alongside some very talented young artists, who will carry the torch into the future. ...Read full info here
Mt. Zion Memorial Fund Headstone Roots Benefit Concert Series Starts Oct 6
(Nashville, TN) - An event on Thursday October 6 marks the first of several benefit concerts at the American Legion (3206 Gallatin Pike) in Nashville to support the work of the Mt. Zion Memorial Fund (MZMF) – a non-profit cemetery organization based in Oxford, MS that since 1989 has worked to fulfill its mission of marking the unmarked graves of blues artists, protecting abandoned cemeteries, and helping African American church communities regain legal access to historic rural cemeteries in Mississippi. This benefit concert featuring the musical lineup of Jordan Tice, Zach Ryan, Allen Thompson, and Jack Pearson, will primarily serve to help mark the grave of legendary blues musician Bo Carter, otherwise known as Armenter Chatmon, of the famous Chatmon family. The event starts at 8pm.
