The Rivers Coalition meeting is Thursday, July 28th at 11:00 am at Stuart City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and there is plenty of free parking available. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.

University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science

Larry E. Brand, Ph. D 
 
Dr. Brand earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas Austin and his Ph.D.  from MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.  He is a professor of Marine Biology and Environmental Science at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) at the University of Miami.  Dr. Brand is a highly respected researcher and expert on Cyanobacteria and harmful algae blooms.  Dr. Brand's understanding of algal toxicity, and his recent published work on nutrient loading and the harmful effects of algae blooms to South Florida ecosystems make his presentation particularly poignant.

River Kidz Summer Events
 
The River Kidz hosted a hands on toxic algae t-shirt tie dye event on June 25th at Sewall's Point Park. Great food, music and lots of learning took place with the River Kidz and hundreds of attendees.
 
 

 
 
 
 
 
On July 7th the River Kidz hosted a  Sea Turtle Walk and Presentation which took place at Sewall's Point Town Hall.
 
 
 
 
The River Kidz flew to Washington D.C. for Congressman Murphy and Congressman Clawson's Lagoon-Gulf Action Day at the Nation's Capitol on July 14th. Speaking out, getting involved and creating awareness about out local toxic algae crisis is what the River Kidz are about.

 June 29th Rivers Coalition Meeting Highlights
 
Dr. Duane De Freese gave a presentation on the Future of the Indian River Lagoon Ecosystem. Rivers Coalition members and members of the community filled the room at Stuart City Hall.
  

 

 Senator Joe Negron announced the Governor's plan for a State of Emergency.
 
 
 
Community Events
Citizens for Clean Water organized a beach clean up on July 2nd.
