Q & A WITH CHEF JEFF
The students were recently invited to 222 Public House to make pizzas. Delicious! While there, some of the kids interviewed Chef Jeff. Tate was our photographer. Check out their work below.

Q: What kind of toppings do you like on your pizza:
A: I like everything. Everything except anchovies.

Q: What are the ingredients in your pizza dough?
A: Flour, yeast, water and salt.

Q: How long does it take to make a pizza?
A: Once you get the pizza in the oven, it only takes about two to three minutes.

Q:Why do you like using a brick oven?
A: It is more traditional, and it cooks differently. The pizzas cook quickly and taste good.

Q: How do you not get too stressed out when you have to make so many pieces at one time?
A: Well, making pizzas is fun, right? It's not too stressful. Plus I have a lot of help here at the restaurant.

THERE'S NOTHING LIKE PLAYING IN THE WOODS
Our last big field trip of the year - camping at New River State Park.

We would like to thank Riverview Holdings for being our 2016/2017 field trip sponsor!

NO END OF GRADE TESTS
The Yadkin Valley Community School is a private school, and therefore, we are governed by the NC Division of Non-Public Education. That means we are working within a different "box" than traditional public schools. One of the variations is that we do not administer End of Grade Tests (EOGs). Instead, we are required to give a nationally standardized test to our 3rd and 6th graders. So how are these different? The biggest differences are the emphasis placed on the tests and the way we prepare for the test. You could look at the way that we have prepared for the TerraNova this year in two different ways. On one hand, we have not prepared for it at all. That's right. We have not wasted one minute on "test prep". If you have ever had or known a student in 3rd grade in public school, you will note that our approach is drastically different. On the other hand, we have been preparing all year because we have been teaching math, language, and reading comprehension. There is a difference in actually teaching content and teaching to the test. There is no pressure. It's just a test. It takes a few hours, and then we all go back to business as usual.
