January 2016

Welcome Back!  We hope you enjoyed your holidays.
Happy New Year!

Our Chair Committee is looking forward to bringing new and exciting topics to our meetings. We hope to see you all there.

Dr. Randall W Parkinson will hold a discussion about Climate Change and Sea Level Rise as it relates to the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie Estuary.
Dr. Parkinson is a well published climatologist and coastal engineer from Melbourne, FL.  He has spoken many times about global climate change and concomitant rising sea level and its profound impact on Florida’s coastal and marine systems.
We are fortunate to have Dr. Parkinson join us for January’s Meeting.

The Rivers Coalition meeting, this coming Thursday January 28th at 11am as always, is open to the public and there is plenty of free parking available. We'll even have coffee and donuts for you.

Get the facts! Stay informed! Be involved!

Stuart News - 12 Days of Christmas Donation

The Rivers Coalition would like to Thank The Stuart News and Tyler Treadway for including us in their 12 Days of Christmas program.
Further, we would like to Thank Ted Stevens of Computer Network Services in Jensen Beach for answering our call for computer security.
We appreciate his generosity immensely.
He is providing us with full antivirus, computer monitoring and maintenance to insure that our systems are properly updated.  Ted lives and plays on the rivers and is concerned about their present and future security; this is his way of contributing to the welfare of our St. Lucie River and the Indian River Lagoon.
In Memory of J.P. Powers

The Rivers Coalition would like to thank the family and friends of J.P. Powers who graciously donated $525 to the Rivers Coalition in his memory.

Martin County River Kidz

River Kidz Call for Action in the Senate:

Disposable Plastic Bag Bill SB306:  The River Kidz called and emailed the committee members of the Senate Environmental Preservation and Conservation Committee to ask for their support on saying YES to this bill.  The bill is now in Community Affairs -SJ 221.

We hope the people of Martin County will consider complying with the regulations if this is passed!
SINGLE USE PLASTIC IS NOT GOOD FOR OUR PLANET OR FOR OUR RIVER!

Thank you from the River Kidz:

Tremendous thanks to the Knopf Foundation!!! The foundation, for the second year in row,  donated $10,000 toward the "River Kidz Workbooks in Martin County School’s Program." Once again, Martin County teachers will be trained to teach the workbook in area elementary schools. Thousands of students will be exposed to the program. River Kidz continues to work hard to speak up, get involved, and raise awareness, because we believe kids should have a voice in the future of our rivers!
