Sweat Lodge ~ November 19th
|
Thursday Night Lodge
November 19th
fire starts @ 5:00 pm
go in lodge about 6:30
~led by Steve Citty ~fire keeper Lee Sinnot
Please arrive as early as 1 hour prior to lodge time to help with the process of covering the lodge.
The Sweat Lodge Ceremonies at the Center For Peace are "Purification Lodges" based in Native American tradition from the Pueblo and Ute People and we honor the ancestors and their teachings in the lodge.. We seek purification and a deeper spiritual awareness through prayer.
Drumming and chanting combine with the steam, heat and darkness to intensify prayers and personal introspection. The lodge leader with help from the fire tender holds an energetic space of safety and security while setting the intent of the lodge and throughout the ceremony.
There are composting toilets in the meadow. You may change clothes in these toilets or at the Peace Sound Chamber. There is no nudity in our lodges.
Suggested Items to Bring:
- Two Towels
- Men are requested to wear swim trunks, gym shorts or something similar.
- Women are requested to wear a skirt or dress. (Something for inside the sweat that is modest and you don’t mind getting muddy.)
- Change of clothes (Preferably long sleeve and covers all of the legs to keep from getting the feast area dirty).
- Covered Dish for the Feast.
It is appropriate to bring tobacco, a small gift, or monetary gift for the fire-keeper and lodge master, both of whom offer their services to the people as a gift.
Cash donations are used to support the Sweat Lodge. We use lots of wood for the fire; supplies like herbs (sage, tobacco, cornmeal, etc.), drinking water, and more. If you are feeling abundant, a donation would be appreciated. (Typically $10-$20)
Information: Steve Citty (865) 300-4424
More..
There is never a charge for Ceremony. If you are not feeling abundant, PLEASE do not allow this to prevent you from coming.

Make Your World a Brighter Place – Shift Into Positive
Join Sandy Palmer in a journey that explores being positive. It is a habit to be developed.
Many of us are used to being negative and do not even realize it. Media frequently focuses on the negative because it sells. When you put words and thoughts in a positive frame work you begin to focus on what you want in your life instead of what you don't want. You get what you focus on.
This exploration will take place once a month for six months. We will meet on Sunday afternoons from 1 – 3:15 PM for very interactive and exploration sessions.
Drumming, meditation, deep breathing, and other activities will be used to take the necessary inner journey. There will be time between the workshops so that individuals can try out and practice methods of being positive. Some of the topics we will cover are the brain, positive language, positive thinking, being in the here and now and more. You are welcome to come to all of the workshops or just one or two.
Sandy has a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and has been trained in various methods of positive disciple. She realized that the same principles apply to adults and when used can help you become happier and more focused. Sandy teaches and meditation yoga in Seymour. The lessons of yoga and meditation bring one into the here and now, encourages calmness, and focus. Sandy started her spiritual journey when she was 10 years old and started contemplating the edges of the Universe.

Long Dance ~ December 5th-6th
Dance Chiefs:
Katy Koontz
Colby McLemore
Are you tired of fighting with what seems to be your fate? Or maybe you have a vision and would like help manifesting it.
The Long Dance is a powerful ceremony for focusing your intention to create your future and then dancing into it.
This dance was the vision of Native American elder Joseph Rael, Beautiful Painted Arrow, who chiefed it here for many years before releasing it to new chiefs upon his retirement, assuring that his powerful gift would continue blessing the People.
LETTER FROM DANCE CHIEFS
******************************
Greetings Long Dance dancers!
We’re excited to announce that the 2015 Long Dance at the Center for Peace will be held Saturday, December 5 through Sunday, December 6.
We want to extend a special invitation to all those who have been called to dance in the past to join us this year (and a thank-you to those who have already registered to dance again).
Once more, we will dance around the inside of the Peace Sound Chamber to the beat of the drum, surrounded by the powerful medicine of the dancers’ banners, reflecting where we have come from, where we are now, and what the Dance will help us manifest for our future. As the night deepens, the chamber itself will become a drum and the dancers’ feet will become drumbeaters. Light from the sacred fire will flicker against the Chamber’s outer walls, supporting internal illumination and offering its incredible power of transmutation as the dancers go deeper and deeper into the state of No Mind. By morning, we will all breathe into a new dawn, both for the planet and for ourselves.
Please pray about whether or not you are being called to join the dance again this year. If so, please visit the Long Dance page on the Center’s website [http://www.centerforpeace.us/long_dance.php] to register. That way, we’ll know how many dancers to expect, and you will be assured of receiving all the dancer notifications with information about the details of this year’s dance.
Thank you for honoring us with your Dance in the past. We hope you will be called to dance your future into being with us again this year.
Love and light,
Colby McLemore and Katy Koontz

Life as an American Indian Mystic
Here is the amazing personal story of Joseph Rael, Beautiful Painted Arrow, from his birth on the Southern Ute reservation, through his childhood at Picuris Pueblo, to his work today as a healer, visionary and man of peace. It is a story of the power of Native American ceremonies, both ancient and contemporary, of visions, miracles, and mystical knowledge.
Sound: Native Teachings and Visionary Art
One of the great living visionaries in the Native American tradition presents the most substantial book yet of his teachings, illustrated with 60 of his colorful visionary artworks and links to scores of his voice recordings online.
In this collection of his most basic and profound teachings, Joseph Rael writes about sound as the basis for all that is, and shows us how to use sound to remake ourselves and our world.

DRUMMING, MEDITATION, AND CHANNELING
Tuesdays
7:30-9:30pm
We will drum for a while, then drift into a silent meditation. The Guides, with which Perry works, will begin to speak. All are invited to attend. Bring your favorite drum [we will have a few extras here, if you do not have one to play], an open mind, and a supportive heart. In the spirit of "my job is to show up", let's see what happens. You will know if you need to be here. An opportunity will be given for other Guides to speak as well. Out of respect for time, let's come early to socialize, so we can start on time.

We are asking for sponsorship through monthly donations.
These donations do not need to be large but if those who love the Center for Peace could help by committing a few dollars on a monthly basis it could be the difference between always hoping that someday we will be able to build or provide those needed areas (i.e. showers, sleeping areas, restrooms) and actually making it happen.
If you have participated in any of the programs, offerings, and events that occur on an ongoing basis at the Center for Peace you have already felt the personal blessings from these activities. Our mission is to be a Spiritual Center for our community which extends to anyone open to this learning path.
