Chairman Leon Abood Passing the Gavel
At our September 23rd meeting, long-time Chairman Leon Abood retired and passed the gavel to a newly appointed leadership team.
The team will consist of Darrell Brand, Nicole Mader, Jim Moir, George Jones and Mark Perry.

The new co-chairs are all well respected members of the community and have been involved with the Rivers Coalition as representatives for their organizations for many years.

“I have every faith that I am leaving you in good hands and it’s time for the organization to move in a new direction and get some fresh perspectives” said Abood.

The Coalition also voted unanimously to elect Abood as Chairman Emeritus, an honorary status that will
enable him to remain close to the leadership of the organization; he will also continue to represent the
Realtor Association of Martin County within the Coalition.

Speakers Bureau
On September 10, Todd Weissing, the coordinator of the Rivers Coalition Speaking Bureau, had the pleasure of addressing the Port St. Lucie Angler’s Club at The Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens. An interested crowd of approximately 40 people attended an informative presentation to learn more about the condition of the river and estuary, which is home to one of the world’s most diverse animal and plant life. They also discussed the detrimental effects of discharges from Lake Okeechobee, possible solutions to improve the flow ways, and the latest political happenings. The energized group was engaged in the presentation and had the opportunity to ask lots of questions.

If you are interested in having a representative of the Rivers Coalition speak to your group, please contact Todd Weissing at 772-223-6743 or by email at info@riverscoalition.org
