AUGUST RIVERS COALITION MEETING

Joining us as the special guests at our August meeting will be Tom Kenny from the Caulkins Water Farming Project and Jeff Sumner, PE, Director of Agricultural Policy at South Florida Water Management District.

We hope to see you Thursday August 27th at 11 am, Stuart City Hall.

Tom Kenny will be talking about the Water Farming Pilot Project known as "Caulkins", located in Indiantown. The Caulkins Water Farm proposes to expand it's existing 413 acre pilot project – Tom will explain how water farming is an alternative water storage option that adds to, and supplements, other existing and proposed water retention, storage and diversion projects designed to reduce destructive discharges from Lake Okeechobee and local drainage.

Jeff Sumner will be providing data and analysis from the SFWMD of the Water Farming Project.

The Rivers Coalition meeting, as always, is open to the public and there is plenty of free parking available. We'll even have coffee and donuts for you.

Martin County River Kidz
RIVER KIDZ HONORED AT
ECONOMIC COUNCIL BREAKFAST

The River Kidz founders, Evie Flaugh and Naia Mader were very honored when asked to speak at the Economic Council of Martin County on August 13th.  The event promoted leadership in youths at the annual Kids of the Council breakfast at Willoughby Country Club.  The breakfast included many other children of the members of the Economic Council, ages 2-16, along with 5 of our River Kidz who have had a long history with us. All the kids were introduced by name, with age, school attended and hobbies added.

The Kids of the Council breakfast was very special because, as Charles Gerardi put it, this breakfast is solely about the kids and making them feel important.

Sheriff William Snyder, also a guest speaker, spoke about inspiring leadership in all of us by encouraging us to do our part, however big or small, in our community.
