May 2015

The public is invited and urged to join the Rivers Coalition
this Thursday May 28, 2015 at 11:00am at Stuart City Hall.

After the most recent decision by the SFWMD to IRREVOCABLY TERMINATE" the option to purchase the US Sugar land without a PLAN B - the Rivers Coalition will hold a special discussion.  We will stay focused on Amendment 1 money and the need to purchase land south of Lake O.
We need to reach out to the Legislators - as the special session in Tallahassee is next week.
We also will include an update by Mary Dawson on her personal efforts - the Action Plan To Take Back Florida”.
If you want to be part of the process, this meeting will be your opportunity to voice your opinion!

Get the facts! Stay informed! Be involved!
There is plenty of free parking, coffee and donuts.

Speakers Bureau

On May 18th, Marty Baum spoke on behalf of the Rivers Coalition to a community-minded group at the Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart.  Marty gave an entertaining, informative presentation that outlined the condition of the river, the possible solutions to clean it up, and the latest political developments.  Everyone had a good time while learning about this important cause.

Upper East Coast Floridian Aquifer System Modeling Project

The South Florida Water Management District is pleased to announce that the East Coast Floridan Model (ECFM) results in support of the Upper East Coast (UEC) Water Supply Plan are available online.

The ECFM was applied in 2014-2015 to analyze current and future trends of water level, water quality and water flow within the Floridan Aquifer System (FAS), an important source of water for agriculture as well as public water suppliers in the Upper East Coast region (Martin and St. Lucie counties and eastern Okeechobee County).
The results of the modeling exercise, along with supporting materials, can be accessed at the District's Upper East Coast Water Supply Plan web page on the following link.

We urge you to take a moment to read the User's Guide (located in the "How to Access and Interpret the Model Results") before opening the results. The User's Guide contains descriptions and explanations of the performance graphics, as well as tips on how to navigate an interactive map which contains some of the results. It also provides a brief description of the actual model runs.

We have scheduled a public workshop to discuss the Upper East Coast Floridan Aquifer Modeling  including the assumptions and results. The details for this meeting are below.
We invite you to attend.
