So what's the latest in the rough-and-tough battle to save and restore the St. Lucie River? Are we ever going to stop the filthy discharges that ruin our once-pristine estuary?
Come get the latest at the Rivers Coalition general meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26 at Stuart City Hall. And add your thoughts as the pollution continues. With the help of angry and insistent citizens, we can stop the toxic discharges that amounted to 500 billion gallons to the coasts in 2013, and even more in earlier times.
Special interests are exerting their political influence in public office, launching renewed efforts to maintain the status quo while life in the waterways suffers gravely.
The resultant damages not only diminish our quality of life but lessen property values and cause many other economic losses.
We'll have the light on for you Thursday and there's plenty of free parking and even coffee and donuts. |

Support Indian Riverkeeper

Let's help our Indian Riverkeeper Marty Baum!

On Wednesday February 18th, three River Kidz participated in the Clean Water-Amendment 1 Rally in at the state’s capitol in Tallahassee. It was a whirlwind of a day. Naia, Keile and Olivia were able speak at the rally; wrote short speeches, and presented them before Representative Larry Lee; Senator Joe Negron; and then, again, before the Senate Natural Resources Committee. The Kidz passed out over 200 copies of their new River Kidz 2nd Edition Workbook "Marty the Manataee" Their cousins the St. Lucie River Kidz participated too! Thank you to Katy Lewey! The Kidz voices were heard! "Move the Water South!" "Buy the Land!”
The River Kidz Workbook is making it's real debut on Saturday, Feb. 28th at the Environmental Studies Center with spots for 44 second grade teachers (public, private and homeschool) who will learn it's content. We have already filled about 25 spots. We are excited to present a bonafide teacher's workshop with lots of educational opportunities: field trip on River Scout, informative power point presentations, tours from River Kidz, Indian Riverkeeper Marty Baum, Commissioner Jacqui Thurlow-Lippisch, Crystal Lucas, Nic and Naia Mader from River Kidz and much more including a continental breakfast, great lunch and a digital camera!
