Brewtopia is Now on Facebook

Brewtopia now has a presence on Facebook where beer lovers can see instant news and photos from Owen's travels, and post photos, comments, and beer news of their own. If you are traveling and find a fantastic new beer bar, brewpub or craft beer, be sure to post a photo and a comment on our Facebook page to share with everyone. Owen has also started a Facebook discussion board seeking feedback from beer lovers on the quality of cask ales being served around the Southeast. After sampling a cask conditioned ale, click here to post a review. Was the cask treated properly? Murky? Yeasty? Carbonated? Perfect? Let us know!

New Terrapin Collaborations

Be sure to seek out Terrapin and DeProef's delicious new collaboration beer - Monstre Rouge is an Imperial Flanders-style Ale. Terrapin's Spike Buckowski and SBS Imports Alan Shapiro (pictured to the right) also announce their 2010 Reunion Beer - a Belgian-style Scotch Ale fermented with Rochefort yeast. The Reunion Beer benefits Myeloma and Bone Cancer victims and research. Recent release parties were held at Brick Store in Decatur and Trappeze in Athens, GA.

Mahleur Brewer Visits Georgia

Manu De Landtsheer of Belgium's Brouwerij De Landtsheer (maker of the marvelous Malheur beers) visited with pub owners and importers at Trappeze Pub in Athens, Georgia in June of 2010. Click on the link below to view Owen's video of Manu and the guys at the Trappeze event and see the special appearance of Manu's lovely daughter (on her first visit to America).

Malheur 10 is reminiscent of a somewhat sweet, golden Belgian Triple, while the Malheur 12 is more of a rich, strong dark ale. Both superb beers are carbonated in the bottle like champagne.

Homebrewers Conference in MN

Owen Ogletree and Don "Dr. Brewski" Beistle enjoyed a terrific National Homebrewers Conference earlier this month in Minneapolis. Along with an informative cask ale seminar from our friend Steve Hamburg (right), the conference featured symposia on yeast, hops, malt, cellaring, rare UK beers, beer history, and more.

With nearly 1,300 homebrewers, professional craft brewers and beer enthusiasts attending the sold-out 2010 National Homebrewers Conference, the event ranked as the largest gathering in the history of the conference.

Zymurgy's Top Beers in America

Zymurgy, the journal of the American Homebrewers Association, announced the results of its annual reader survey poll of the "Best Commercial Beers in America." The 2010 winner, for the second straight year, is Pliny the Elder, a double IPA brewed by Russian River Brewing Co. in Santa Rosa, CA.

Click here to see how other beers ranked in the national poll.
